Dead link: J7xx front keys remapping by Raul Lucky
Some extremely useful tips by this guy Raul Lucky . They used to be here----->
http://www.geocities.com/roosterluck...andtricks1.htm
Sadly the link seems to be dead. I needed it after a hard reset and fortunately I had kept a copy of the page
Here is a copy just for reference.

Get Terminal Client to run in 640x240 mode. Thanks to Jon Milne for posting this tip on the message board:
"If you use the TS client that comes with the 720, you'll probably be annoyed by no right click feature and having to scroll a 640x480 desktop all the time. Solution: download and install the Terminal Server Client for the HPC Pro 3.0 from Microsoft (). It installs over the pre-installed version, works exactly the same, has right click implemented (alt+screen tap) and matches the 640x280 screen res of the 720 - so no scrolling!! Also, it comes with a connection wizard that creates server connection / configuration shortcuts on your desktop. Sweet! Suddenly TS is usable! Hope this helps someone out... it was driving me mad!!"
Re-enable right-clicking in Terminal Client by changing the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client] Change the value called "CEUseScanCodes" from 1 to 0. This registry edit re-enables the right-click feature (alt+tap) in Terminal Client.

Reprogramming your keys for Windows Media Player
Though I enjoy using my Jornada 720 as an expensive Walkman, I found that sometimes I would like to use the external buttons to select songs rather than use them for increasing and decreasing the volume (I just take the headphones off or pause the song when I wish to pay attention to the outside world). Here is a registry hack to allow you to press the external "+" button to move forward to the next song and the "-" to move back to the previous song (Please use these procedures at your own risk!):
1. Open the registry editor.
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys.
3. Scroll down to the number 40D1 and highlight it.
4. Double tap on the registry key in the right pane "(Default)" and change the data field from "\Windows\VolumeUp" to "\Windows\Next.lnk"
5. Scroll down to the number 40D2 and highlight it.
6. Double tap on the registry key in the right pane "(Default)" and change the data field from "\Windows\VolumeDown" to "\Windows\Previous.lnk"
5. The next time you play Windows Media Player and press the "+" button, the next song on the playlist will play. The "-" button will launch the previous song on the playlist.
You may use the external buttons to launch any executable. Under the \Windows directory, other Windows Media Player shortcuts exist: Stop.lnk (I assume to stop playing), ToggleMute.lnk, ToggleRepeat.lnk and ToggleShuffle.lnk. Maybe HP should have put a few more buttons outside of the case :0) Have fun!
Reprogramming your keys for Voice Recorder
Want to get the Voice Recorder to function when the external buttons are pressed? This procedure outlines two procedures (one I actually use) to get the buttons to operate the voice recorder function using other keys (especially the external media buttons). Please use these procedures at your own risk since they involve registry hacking! MS PowerToys v3.0 www.microsoft.com powtoy30.asp>contains a free registry editor.
This first method hasn't worked for me (depressing launches Voice Recorder, but does not initiate recording. Please e-mail me if you get this to work!), but it has for the person who shared this info with me:
1. Open the registry editor.
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys.
3. Scroll down to the number 40D3 and highlight it.
4. Double tap on the registry key in the right pane "(Default)" and change the data field from "\Windows\PausePlay.lnk" to "\Windows\voicstub.exe"
This allows a user to launch Voice Recorder, but only works when the unit is turned on first and no password is enabled!
This second method has worked for me and also allows you to press the button and keep it depressed to record a memo and release to stop recording without turning on the unit and entering your password. This modification is safe since it does not require registry hacking, but please use these procedures at your own risk! :0)
1. Launch HP Hot Keys
2. Highlight/select "Hot key 3"
3. In the "Assign to:" field, click on "Browse"
4. Find the voicstub.exe executable and select it. Tap on "Ok"
5. Tap on "Ok"
6. With the unit off, push and hold down the Voice Recorder Hot key and presto!
I've e-mailed a few Jornada 720 users and we all agree that HP should supply us with a patch to give us the option to get the External Voice Recording Functionality back! Click here to let them know!
More HotKeys for those keyboard-centric folks!

Prolong the life of your color LCD!
Ever get concerned about your Jornada screen burning out while it is docked all day? Here are a few things you can do to prolong the life of your LCD while your Jornada just sits there synchronizing all day:
1) Use Xoanan's Screen Saver www.xoanan.com />to activate after a certain period of inactivity.
2) Use Image Expert CE to show a slideshow of your family.
3) Turn off the screen by using the [alt]+[calendar hotkey]. This will deactivate your screen (just like in sleep mode when your Jornada is playing music or connected through ethernet whilst on batteries) but continue all processes (I started using this one recently). To reactivate the screen, hit any key.

How to open a link in a new PIE window
Since the right tap does not work in Pocket Internet Explorer, I've discovered this technique to open new pages when tapping on a link (I do this to avoid reloading large pages when going back to a previous page):
Browse to any web site with links. While holding the shift key down at the same time, tap on a link. Presto! Your link opens in a new page!

Miss the HP Macro function on the Jornada 680/690?
Here's a method I use to run macros as well as use the hot-key function:
First, create your macros via bSQUARE www.bsquare.com />Script. Second, create a shortcut to the macro. Third Assign a "hot-key" via Ruksun's www.ruksun.com />free Launch Force to allow key combinations to run the macro shortcut. Presto! Your HP Macro replacement is complete!
